Houses above Agni Bay, a few minutes from Kalami

Agni is a small pebble cove on the northeast coast. Three tavernas sit on the water. The swimming is clear in the morning, before the day-boats. Kalami — Lawrence Durrell wrote Prospero’s Cell there — is a few minutes along the coast.

We let two houses above the bay, not on it. Nausika Cottage sleeps two: terraces, sea and mountain in front of you, about ten minutes down to the tavernas. Villa Agni sleeps five, has a private pool, and is one of the original houses in the bay (1920s, restored in the 1990s). Both have steps. The return from the beach is the part people mention.

Time disregards its measure. Nausika Cottage sleeps two above Agni Bay: rustic rooms, sea and mountain views, about ten minutes' walk down to the tavernas.

Good to know

• You can hire a small boat in the bay and poke into the next coves. Kerasia is the quiet one guests get sent to.
• Corfu Town is roughly 45 minutes by car. A hire car is how you see the rest of the island; the bay itself you can do on foot.
• If you want quiet nights away from the shore, the village houses are in Ano Korakiana and Skripero.
• The White House taverna is in Kalami. Agni’s three are on the pebble beach itself.

How far is Kalami from Agni Bay? A few minutes along the coast by car. You can also hire a small boat from Agni and go by water. Lawrence Durrell lived at Kalami and wrote Prospero’s Cell there.

Is the walk from the house down to Agni Bay difficult? Down is about ten minutes. Back up is the hard part, and both houses have steps. If someone in the party cannot manage a hill, choose somewhere else.

Which Agni house has the pool? Villa Agni. It sleeps 5. Nausika Cottage sleeps 2 and does not have a pool; the swim there is the bay.
