Agni is a small pebble cove on the northeast coast, about 25 km from Corfu Town, tucked between Kalami and Nissaki. It is known for three tavernas standing directly at the water’s edge, and for the yachts that moor offshore in the evening so their crews can row in for dinner.

Staying above the bay means you can walk down for lunch and swim before the day-boats arrive. It is a smaller, more coastal experience than the hill villages: the sea is the point, and the water here is exceptionally clear.

Choosing between them

• Nausika Cottage is for two: a split-level cottage with terraces and a wide view over the bay.
• Villa Agni sleeps five and has a swimming pool, in one of the original 1920s houses in the bay. It is built on a hillside, so there are steps.

Good to know

• Three tavernas sit at the water’s edge in the bay itself; small motorboats and dinghies can be hired to reach the neighbouring coves.
• The walk down to the bay takes around ten minutes. The return is uphill, so guests with limited mobility may prefer to drive.
• Kalami and Nissaki are a few minutes away by car; Corfu Town is roughly 45 minutes.
• Lawrence Durrell lived at nearby Kalami in the late 1930s and wrote Prospero’s Cell there.
• A car is useful for exploring, though the bay itself is walkable from both houses.
